FSI PGA DFS Preview – No Mulligans – Wyndham Championship
FSI PGA DFS Preview
Wyndham Championship
Course Preview:
This week the PGA Tour heads to Sedgefield CC in Greensboro, NC. Sedgefield is a par 70, 7,100 yard course with bermuda grass greens. The course is a Donald Ross design so we can expect small, fast, and difficult greens. This event tends to be a birdie fest with a typical winning score below -20 and the cut around -2. The fairways are easy to hit and the greens are medium to soft. The two par 5s are very beatable with over 50% of PGA golfers making birdie or better and about 5% making eagle. The course has 7 par 4s of 400-450 yards.
This is the last event before the FedEx Cup Playoffs and golfers will be trying to make the top 125 in points to qualify. The class of this week’s field is Brooks Koepka, Webb Simpson, and Tommy Fleetwood. We will be watching a few players on that point bubble including Charl Schwartzel (125th), Bronson Burgoon (126th), Chase Seiffert (127th), and Nick Watney (128th).
This week, driving distance is less important, but driving accuracy is the focus. In 2019 of the top 10 finishers, 4 of them were also top 10 in fairways gained. We are looking for golfers who excel on par 4s (especially 400-450 yards) and can also score well on par 5s. With low scores expected, we will factor in birdie or better percentage this week. Our main focus will be shots gained on approach, but don’t forget to add shots gained putting on bermuda greens to the model.

Initial players we are focusing on:
- Webb Simpson: Simpson will be a popular DFS choice this week with his fantastic course history. He was the runner-up in 2018 & 2019 and finished 3rd in 2017. He has made 8/8 cuts to go along with 5 top 10s at Sedgefield CC. In this field since the pandemic stoppage, Simpson ranks 21st in ball striking, 14th T2G, and 6th in DK points.
- Paul Casey: Casey is another golfer with good history at Sedgefield CC. In 2019 he finished 13th to go along with a 3rd place finish in 2015, and 4/5 cuts made since 2012. Casey finished strong last week at the PGA Championship in a tie for 2nd with Dustin Johnson. Since the stoppage, Casey’s rank in this field is 4th in ball striking, 7th in approach and 8th T2G. The putter has been his weakness ranking 130th in the field.
- Harris English: English continued his run of good form last week finishing 19th at the PGA championship. This week his DK price has increased a ton, but we expect him to be a popular selection again. English excels on bermuda greens and has made 6/6 cuts at this event. Since the pandemic stoppage, he ranks 5th in par 4 scoring, #1 in putting, 24th on approach, and 19 T2G.
- Henrik Norlander: Norlander has not played on the PGA Tour the past few weeks, but we think he is set up for a great week at the Wyndham Championship. He finished 16th in 2013 and missed the cut in 2016 at this event, but his form has drastically improved since then. He has 5 straight made cuts on tour including a 6th place finish at the Memorial. In this field since the pandemic stoppage, Norlander ranks 3rd in approach, 3rd T2G, 3rd in fairways gained, and 6th in GIR. Finally, bermuda greens are his best putting surface. We think that Norlander is a great value in DFS this week.
Others to consider:
Brooks Koepka, Brendon Todd, Billy Horschel, Corey Conners, Harold Varner III, Ryan Armour.
